Level Up Your Skills!
Join the exciting world of esports at RTMS! Our club is open to all students interested in competitive video gaming.
What is Esports?
Esports, short for electronic sports, is a form of competition using video games. It involves professional players, organized teams, and even international competitions!
What do we do?
- Play popular games: We'll compete in against schools across the USA in exciting Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments each week.
- Build teamwork and communication: Learn valuable life skills like teamwork, communication, sportsmanship, and problem-solving.
- Have fun! Enjoy friendly competition, make new friends, and discover the thrill of esports.
No experience necessary!
Whether you're a seasoned gamer or just starting out, everyone is welcome. We provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all skill levels.

Join the RTMS Pokémon Players Club!
What We Do:
- Learn to Play: Discover the exciting world of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. We'll teach you the rules, deck-building strategies, and how to play like a pro.
- Weekly Meetings: Gather with fellow Pokémon fans every Wednesday after school n the RTMS Library.
- Monthly Tournaments: Test your skills and compete against your friends in exciting tournaments.
- Fun and Games: Enjoy friendly competition, make new friends, and have a blast playing Pokémon!
Who Can Join:
All current RTMS students are welcome!
Important Information:
- Club-Provided Decks: Use our pre-designed decks or bring your own.
- Trading: Trading cards with other players is allowed.
- Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is expected at all times.

Description
SeaPerch at Rodney Thompson Middle School is an after-school club where students work in teams to design, build, and test underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). They'll learn engineering skills and problem-solving while preparing to compete in the Fredericksburg Regional SeaPerch Challenge.

Subject: SeaPerch Applications Open NOW
Message: SeaPerch is a STEM education program that teaches students how to build a ROV using PVC pipe and other materials. The program also aims to help students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity skills, and culminates with a regional SeaPerch Challenge in the spring. Any student who is interested in the RTMS SeaPerch club should complete and submit THIS APPLICATION no later than 4pm on Tuesday, November 18th. See the link in the application for more information about the SeaPerch program and competition. Please note that only students can access the application with their SCPS email address, but a parent/guardian should review the application prior to submitting. Due to limited space, time, and resources, spots are limited to 24 students, who will work in teams of 3. Students who are selected for participation will be notified via email by the SeaPerch club sponsor and RTMS science teacher, Ms.Quail, by the end of the day on Monday, November 24.

The K-Pop Club at Rodney Thompson Middle School is an after-school club for students who enjoy Korean popular music (K-Pop). K-Pop is a global music genre featuring catchy melodies, dynamic choreography, and vibrant performances. Club members explore K-pop music, culture, and dance, connecting with others who share their passion.
The K-Pop club is open to all current RTMS students. The club meets every other Tuesday after school until 5:15. Students can pick up a permission form in the Cafeteria or email Ms. Rivers in Room 102 or Mrs. Vann in Room 120 for info about the next club meeting date.
The Swifties - Ready to shake it off with fellow Swifties? Join our club and dive into the amazing world of Taylor Swift! We'll spend time celebrating her music, from her country roots to her latest pop anthems, and explore her iconic albums. Whether you're a fan of the classics like "Fearless" and "1989" or are ready to get lost in "folklore" and "evermore," there’s a place for you here. Come hang out, make new friends, and share your favorite theories, songs, and eras. It's a club where you can be yourself, speak now,a nd truly embrace all things Taylor Swift.

Description
The RTMS Cross Country team is an after-school club where students train and compete in local 5k races and we hold Cross Country meets vs the other Stafford County middle school teams. Runners of all levels are welcome to join and improve their fitness while being part of a supportive team.
This club is "run" in the fall and students may pick up a permission slip outside of room 219.
Chess Club & 24

Description
The Chess and 24 Math Challenge Club at Rodney Thompson Middle School offers students a chance to sharpen their minds through strategic gameplay. Participants learn and play chess, developing critical thinking and planning skills. They also tackle the fast-paced 24 game, improving mental math and quick problem-solving abilities.
This club meets before school every other Thursday at 8:20 am in the RTMS Cafeteria.

Jazz Band

Description
The RTMS Jazz Band is a before-school performance club for select students at Rodney Thompson Middle School. Students rehearse regularly before classes and showcase their musical talents with several performances throughout the school year.
The club meets regularly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7:50. Jazz Band is open to all grades but students must be in band class, or play a rhythm section instrument. Email Mr. Cardwell cardwelltm@staffordschools.net if you are interested.
Soccer Club
RTMS Intramural Soccer
Soccer Club will "kick off" in March 2026.
Directions: Please read through all items below
- Intramural soccer does NOT require a VHSL physical form.
- There are NO TRYOUTS for participation so all skill levels are welcome!
- You MUST wear shin guards and appropriate shoes (sneakers or rubber cleats) for safety.
- Students are not required to come to all meeting times.
- Bring a soccer ball (labeled with your name) and water bottle (with your name) each session!
Details:
- Pick-up time is promptly at 5:30. If a student is picked up late (past 5:30) twice, we will not continue to invite this student to participate.

Friendship Builders Club

The Friendship Builders Club is a welcoming space where students can connect, build friendships, and have fun together. Our goal is to create an inclusive community where everyone - students with and without special needs- feels valued and supported. Through games, team activities, and shared experiences, members learn the importance of kindness, respect, and understanding while making lasting friendships. If you are looking for a place to laugh, belong, and grow together, this club is for you.
The club will meet once a month on Wednesdays from 4:15 - 5:30 pm. Final dates will be shared after participation numbers have been confirmed.
Students may pick up a permission form in the cafeteria.

In the Spring, Watercolor Club will meet weekly in Mr. McClung's room to explore, practice, and have fun with the medium of Watercolor Paints. Students and teachers will have time to follow tutorials to learn different techniques, as well as have time to practice freely. Students will walk away with a new appreciation for the style of Watercolor Paints as well as their own collection of works
